Running small group lessons can be a challenge for most teachers. No matter how much prep you've done with centers, there are always questions. Sound like your scenario? Have you thought about using book clubs instead?

With so many great titles, there's no shortage of great choices. Plus, ever child needs more reading time. Agree?

Well, have I got a deal for you! I’m offering my Book Clubs Made Easy resource as a free gift to my subscribers. You can use the activities with any book you choose to provide accountability for your students.

IMAGINE YOUR STUDENTS WORKING together independently, engaged, and having fun!

Using Book Clubs in Grades 2-5 to increase reading engagement

ASSIGN A GROUP LEADER AND HAVE HIM/HER LEAD THE DISCUSSION.

You will have to teach the students how to handle the discussion questions and show them how to take turns answering. You might “pass the mike” to manage it.

Alternate roles so that each group member takes a turn at the job that may not be the favorite.

You might keep a checklist of the roles each person has completed, and rotate each day.

Choose texts that are manageable for the group to read.

Hopefully, you can group your students by similar levels and interests so that all students complete the reading on time. Give independence as much as possible to free yourself for small group lessons.

Need a bit more convincing? Well, I certainly can share a few more reasons BEYOND THE FACT THAT IT'S FREE!

BOOK CLUBS MAKE READING FUN

Kids WANT to read together and talk about their books. Book clubs can be used in the summer or in classroom as part of your reading rotations.

RESEARCH ON BOOK CLUBS

I’d love to share my Book Clubs Made Easy set with you. It can be used with any book for grades 2-5. It includes both digital and pdf options for use in all settings. Each page can be assigned to a different group member to that there is accountability. The assignment ensures that each student has a role in the discussion.
