Social Emotional Learning or SEL is more important now than ever before, and the best time to work on social emotional learning is during your morning meetings and with mentor texts. All you need to do is print or project and go! These poems were written exactly for this purpose.
This is the first of four sets of my collection. Each set has 8 original poems and supplementary printables. There is a page focused on comprehension, one on character building, vocabulary, and one for word study. The poems have been thoughtfully written for students in grades 2-5, and each set is intended to last a week or so.
The best use of the poems would include practice with repeated reading, highlighter hunts, phrase marking, and with the printables included. Use them with whole group for modeling fluency skills, paired with related mentor texts, with your morning meetings, in guided reading groups, for literacy stations, and any time you are waiting (for buses, before lunch, for library, etc)
Each set includes 5 pages including the Poem, Vocabulary, Comprehension Questions and Word Work, Concept Building, and Visualizing/Text Evidence.
