Comparing fiction and nonfiction helps kids learn text features. This resource includes descriptors of fiction and nonfiction text features that can be printed on sticky notes for sorting. A sorting form is included that the teacher projects on a Smartboard. Students sort the sticky note descriptions on the Smartboard form while the class is also sorting either in pairs or individually. Discussion is encouraged.

This resource is described in more detail on this blog post. The post describes a lesson on narrative elements using the book, Thank You Mr. Falker.
I suggest having printables for students to use in teams and that you project the sorting mat. You can either write student responses on the smartboard or sort the sticky notes. For additional practice, you might consider my paper bag books for story elements and for nonfiction text features for extension.
