This Colin McNaughton collection includes Oomph!, Oops, and Preston’s Goal! These are fractured fairy tales, and each is compared to Little Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks and the Three Bears. With all three, character and plot analysis are key skills. Students also learn wonderful vocabulary through McNaughton’s word choice. Writing about reading is a central focus, so each book can be individually analyzed and used as a mentor text.
