Picture sorting is so good for emergent readers, but managing little pieces of paper can be challenging. These beginning sounds sorting mats take away that headache. You can project them on your Smartboard and let students click and drag the pictures to match the beginning sounds.

Identifying the beginning sounds of words is an essential kindergarten skill, but handling tons of manipulatives for modeling can be cumbersome for students and teachers. Thankfully, most kids love tech and you’ll have all eyes on you as you model with these Boom Card activities!

HOW TEACHERS USE THE BEGINING SOUNDS SORTING MATS:

You project the mat with the letters you wish to practice. You can model them with the audio button. Then, students can click and drag the pictures to the correct beginning sound as you name the picture.

With 23 mats and a nice collections of pictures to sort, you’ll have lots of practice opportunities. After you model with it, you can assign it for students to use on laptops, ipads, and your Smartboard. There is audio support for directions, so your students can be completely independent.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT BOOM CARDS:

1) To use Boom Cards, you must be connected to the Internet. Boom Cards play on modern browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge). Apps are available for Android, iPads, iPhones, and Kindle Fires.

4) The activities are perfect for guiding group discussion, for paired work if you are able to have students work together, for independent practice, or as an assessment tool to check understanding.

5) You can differentiate and assign some activities to one student and other activities to another student within your class with the paid account (recommended), and you can collect data based on performance.
