Description
When I was Young in the Mountain by Cynthia Rylant is the autobiography about Cynthia Rylant’s childhood. It describes life in West Virginia and the coal miner’s life. This unit includes before/during/after activities for the book in PDF and Digital for Google Slides TM.
HOW CAN TEACHERS USE THE WHEN I WAS YOUNG IN THE MOUNTAINS UNIT?
I suggest that you use the activities for skill modeling and practice. You can also use them with the book in guided reading, for partner work, or in stations. If you are tutoring, these options provide practice for reading and rereading which we know helps build fluency. They’re great for one-to-one devices too.
