Book Talk Thursday on Saturday-Valentine's Day Books and Activities

I know I'm a few days late, but I wanted to link up with my bloggy buddy, Andrea over at Reading Toward the Stars for her Book Talk Thursday Linky.  She's been running this linky a long time, so if you are looking for book ideas, be sure to check her archives.

This week's topic is Valentine's day books, and I have a few favorites.  Some are older than others, but sometimes it's nice to revisit those oldies but goodies, right??

Valentine's Day is Cool with Pete the Cat...Math Games FreebiePete the Cat is loved by every child who reads or hears it, and this one is no exception.  {This video} of the book is lots of fun, and I even found a cute freebie to go with it.
The Valentine Bears by Eve Bunting is another favorite of mine.  It's a fairly short and great for second grade.  You can access Arwen Sharp's reading of the book {here}.

Character Change inspired by Roses Are Pink, Your Feet Rea
Recently, I found Roses are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink! by Diane DeGroat at a yard sale along with a few of her other books. I had to laugh at this one since I often have a Gilbert or two in my classroom every year.  How about you? {Here} is the video clip of this book.  Boy, I think I'm going to follow Arwen's channel!  I love her readings. I found this Character Change lesson to go with the book.

Vibrant Vocabulary Starter Set--Fancy Nancy Book CompanionWho doesn't love Fancy Nancy? Fancy Nancy Heart to Heart by Jane O'Connor is another fabulous option. The vocabulary is woven in so well and are perfect for teaching context clues. You can use {this clip} if you don't have a copy of the book, and Jennifer's Vibrant Vocabulary set would work well when you're teaching context clues with the vocabulary.

For other book choices, check out the titles in Valentine book image I put together above or drop by Reading Toward the Stars.  You may also find fun activity options in last week's Thematic Thursday linky too.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Thanks, Carla, for linking up! I love all of those books and am going to use Roses Are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink this week. I actually need to buy that one since I keep getting it from the library every year.

    Reading Toward the Stars

    1. Hey, if I happen to see it at Ollie's, I'll pick it up for you. I'll have to check out the book you shared too. It was a new one for me too. Thanks for hosting, Andrea!

  2. Thanks so much for making my vocab packet "famous!" What a great collection of books as well! So happy to discover Arwen's book videos too!
