Currently...

Happy Daylight Savings Time, Readers!  I am up enjoying a bit of quiet time and decided to link up with Farley for her November Currently Linky. It is hard to believe we've been in school ten weeks already, and it's a good time to reflect on what's working well and what may need to be tweaked.  So here is what's going on with me.
Listening:
So I am listening to the wind and leaves blowing this morning.  I can't believe there was snow in North Carolina yesterday, but it sure did mean a change in the temperatures here too.  Last week, it was just gorgeous...highs around 70, sunny, and the leaves were so colorful.  Today, it's cloudy, and the ground is covered with leaves.  I guess today we'll get to start with our marathon leaf blowing time.

Loving:
I have had two weekends in a row with couple time.  Last weekend, we got to spend the weekend away for the first time in ten years.  I'm not kidding!  We had a blast riding ATV's through the woods (with a guide of course) and took some beautiful pictures.

Thinking:
This week, we've been meeting with parents for conferences, and since we've just finished the first quarter, I'm spending a lot of time reflecting on what we've accomplished so far and what we have left to do.  I think we are all feeling the pressures of state testing and worry whether our kids will be where they need to be by the end of the year. I am really hoping the efforts I'm making with Close Reading will be helpful in raising reading levels, improve comprehension strategies, and help my kids improve their test taking skills.

Wanting:
I was shocked to hear my partner script, The Winner Gets the Pie, was chosen for this week's newsletter freebies, and I have been wanting to write more of them.  I had a lot of fun putting the three together that I did in October, and I have plans for making more.  I just...need...more...time!! You can grab it with the link below.

Needing:
It's the second of November, and I am determined to have a lot of Christmas shopping done early this year.  My daughter picked a shopping trip for her birthday, so guess what...I'm going to Christmas shop AND celebrate with her.  We're heading to Ikea and Potomac Mills next weekend, and I will be working on our list.  I hope to be done by Thanksgiving this year, and I think I might enjoy the holidays a bit more if I do.

Reading:
What's that??  Remember the time issue I have??  Well, I did start Lone Wolf last weekend while we were away, and perhaps by Christmas I'll finish it.  Honestly, I should have listed blogs in that box.  I love reading other blog posts.  Bloglovin is just the best for picking articles that interest me.

So, I am off now to check out a few other Currently linkies.  If you're interested in linking up, grab Farley's blog button below.

Have a great week!

  1. Beautiful fall pictures. Fall is such a gorgeous time of year. Yes, reading blogs counts. I am sure that is the majority of what many of us read.

  2. I love that you thought of using Bloglovin as a reading source! So true for us time-crunched teachers and it is great PD! Thanks for the partner script. I'm looking forward to using it this week. It is just what I needed!!

  3. Your pictures of your trip look amazing - glad you are getting to spend some quality time with your guy. One of my best friends is a marriage and family therapist who focuses exclusively on couples and she can't tell me enough how important that is! :-)
    Have a great week!

PS-I mostly read from Bloglovin, too!

  4. I love that leaves-blowing-around sound. It's almost as peaceful as water flowing, but I know it means I just have to get out and rake soon :) Stay warm!

  5. Hi Carla! I've just finished conferences this week as well. Even though it's a bit stressful, I agree that it leads to important reflection about what's working and how we can plan next steps for our students.
    Have a great week!

  6. I LOVE Jodi Picoult! Lone Wolf was a good book, although I totally get the not being able to finish until Christmas. I've taken a short break from "fun reading" for a little while for that exact reason.

Glad you and the husband have been able to enjoy some time alone lately!
