The Gift of Reading Blog Hop Stop #14

Welcome to Comprehension Connection
You have arrived at

If you are just beginning the hop here, you will find at each blog stop reading gifts and freebies.  In each post you will find a picture of a snowman with a letter on it. Collect all of the letters to solve the mystery quote to enter the giveaway. Record all of the letters on this recording sheet and follow each blog along the way so that you can enter the amazing giveaway at the end!

The hop is set up as a loop, so you may start anywhere along the hop, but if you would like to start at the beginning you may go to A Day in the Life of a Title 1 Teacher's blog.  This is also where you will go after you finish the hop to enter the giveaway!

The gift I'm giving today is a guided reading unit for the book, Gingerbread Friends by author Jan Brett.  We are so fortunate to have such talented authors putting together material for our little people to read.  Without them, we would have no reading gifts, right?  Jan Brett's books are a favorite whether you teach primary or upper elementary.  She has such a long list of published books, and I've enjoyed making units for 11-12 of them so far.  (Can you tell I'm a fan?)

Gingerbread Friends is written on an upper second grade level, so the unit activities are geared toward second to third grade, but perhaps K-1 teachers could pick and choose from the activities some that fit their group best.  We all have a range of readers, so perhaps this unit will work for challenging younger advanced readers too.  If you are looking for a mentor text to model a skill, my units work well projected on a Smartboard for whole group modeling too. If you enjoy this unit, I have ten other Jan Brett units available in my store. They are available as single copies or in a bundled set for $15.00. The Gingerbread Friends link is set as free for the blog hop period only.  After that, it will return to a paid product, so be sure to grab it while you can. :-)

Now, on to my secret letter.  It is...

Thank you for stopping by my blog today! I hope that you will enjoy your gift and celebrate reading with your little people. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and a great Jan Brett season too! If you would like to be the first to know about new post, giveaways, and blog hops I am participating in, then follow me on Bloglovin' by clicking the image below.

But wait...there's more (I love saying that!).  You can hop on over to visit Andrea at Reading Toward the Stars to pick up another amazing reading gift! Happy Holidays!

If you get lost along the way, just look below for the next stop.

    1. Thanks Lori! I hope you're able to use it with your kids...perhaps with Wendy's Trouble with Trolls set. :-) We thought it was so ironic that we ended up back to back.

  2. Carla,
I love that our two stops are side-by-side on the hop. We complement each other so well. :) I love Jan Brett's work! She was just in town on Thursday for a book signing for Cinders. I'm excited to use your Gingerbread Friends unit…that book is so cute!
    Thanks for an excellent resource!

    1. You are kidding! I met her many years ago...when I first began in Title 1 at a reading conference. She is one of my favorites. I really loved your unit too...much better than the one I have listed for Trouble with Trolls. LOL! I've learned a lot over the last year. :-) Thanks for commenting. :-)

    1. You're welcome. We got lots of traffic this time, so that was great! I hope all works well with it.
